![]() There are a few features that we find really cool, and one of our favorites is the ability to pin websites. There is no clutter and tabs are quite thin - even more so than some competitors. The interface is incredibly simple, with four icons to the top right taking you to menus for favorites and history, an icon for tools, one for settings, and one to bring you back to the home page. SmartScreen is a component that works to protect you from harmful websites by relaying them to Microsoft to be looked over. Using the recommended settings mostly affects the security and compatibility of your browser by enabling Windows Defender SmartScreen. You can either choose the recommended settings or opt-out and customize the settings your own way. The first thing that happens when you open the browser is a window pops up prompting you to properly set it up. In order to get to Internet Explorer, you'll need to search for it in the task bar. Edge is the default browser that will come up when you first use the internet on the Windows OS. The little blue 'e' that you'll see in your taskbar isn't Explorer though, it's Microsoft Edge, the newest browser from Microsoft that was first released in 2015. On Windows 10, the most recent version of the browser is Internet Explorer 11. If you have a computer running the Windows OS, you more than likely have a version of Internet Explorer already installed. You can also check the bit-version with Windows Task Manager by searching for the iexplore.exe process. If you run IE 32-bit, there is no corresponding note in the About window. If you are running IE 64-bit you will find "64 bit Edition" after the browser version number. You can verify that by clicking "About Internet Explorer" in the help menu in IE8 or on the gearwheel in IE9. Which bit-version are you running? IE 64-bit or IE 32-bit? ^ ![]() Although you can use an alternative browser as the default browser, you can't use Internet Explorer 64-bit as your default browser. Internet Explorer 32-bit is also launched by default when you launch a website from another application. Internet Explorer 9 64-bit as default browser? ^īy default, when you click the Internet Explorer shortcut on the desktop, Internet Explorer 9 32-bit is started. The same applies when you install Internet Explorer 8 on Windows Vista. However, the 64-bit setup file also contains the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer 9. That is, you can't use the 32-bit setup file on Windows 7 圆4, and of course you can't install the 64-bit version on Windows 7 x86. If you want to install Internet Explorer 9, you have to download the correct bit-version for your operating system. For instance, if you installed Windows 7 圆4, you already have Internet Explorer 8 as 32-bit and 64-bit installed.
